Releaf.Community is a mutual aid mapping and matchmaking platform.

We honor the extraordinary efforts of ordinary people who respond and prepare for resilient and regenerative futures in times of increasing uncertainty and distress.

We navigate our complex and uncertain future inspired by the wayfinding tradition of the Pacific nations, by tuning in to our relationships with inner selves, others, and with nature. We deepen collaborations by weaving responders to scale up, wide, and deep across parts of the social, cultural, economic, and ecological ecosystem.

Most communities are not well prepared to respond to disasters
Most relief efforts are only reacting to the situation
Aid is not always directed to the places that need it (and sometimes it's not the right form of aid)
It's difficult to verify if donations are really needed
There's a lot being done already, but often in isolation (so opportunities for collaborative impact are missed)
Organizing relief efforts still requires high tech infrastructure
Donor fatigue sets in as the disaster fades from the headlines

Prototyping in the Philippines, we draw from the spirit of Bayanihan, or nation building. Rooted from the words Bayan or nation and Bayani or hero/ine, Bayanihan is the Filipino social system of collaboration which has been predominantly applied during times of emergencies and crises.
